A call came to Night Walker central (the abandoned Dairy Queen on the south side) from MCPD that mysterious break-ins were occurring at five banks throughout the city. Apparently, a creature appeard out of nowhere at the banks and started breaking into safe deposit boxes. Dead Shot, Silenet Man and Shard went to investigate. Phuk No was having equipment issues and needed to work those out before joining the rest of the team.
After arriving on the scene, they could see through security camera footage that the creature was a suit of armor without a body. It was tearing through safe deposit boxes in search of something. Once inside they saw that the armor glowed with a strange green energy. They attempted to subdue the creature but punctured the armor and the energy leaking out was causing damage to shard. After the energy was depleted, the armor ceased working and fell apart. The team gathered the parts and proceeded to the next bank. They allowed this armor to go about its task in hopes to find out what it was searching for. After it finished, without success, a cloud of dark energy appeared near the ceiling draining the power from the armor. Afterward, they were informed by the police that one of the creatures at another bank had found an item and left with it through the same type of energy cloud.
Investigation revealed that all of the banks were owned by the same company: The Solomon Foundation. They were able to get the number of the box that the item was stolen from. They also got a contact at the Solomon Foundation that could identify the contents for them. They found out from this contact, Sarah Queen, the item stolen was a book called 'The Exitium.' While she had no further info, apart from the apparent lack of value for the item, she could point them to the person who cataloged the item for them, Dr. Drew Steadman with MCU.
On the way to the university, Dead Shot got a message from his reporter friend, Barbara Steele, that armed troops were attacking the university and that she was going to get a closer look. Communications was lost after that.
When they arrived, the team found that a Viper squad was responsible for the attack. After a fierce battle, Viper was subdued and the two hostages, Barbara and Dr. Steadman were rescued. THe Viper agents revealed that they had orders to capture Steadman and bring him to another location for pickup. They had no further details. They also informed Silent Man that they had standing orders for his capture but had no further details on that either.
Steadman was questioned about the book. He told the group that the book was compiled by a cult called the 'Fatum Gigno.' They wanted to cause an apocalypse and had compiled various armageddon beliefs from cultures all over the globe. They compiled these stories into the Exitium. While they tried to make these stories reality on many occasions, they failed or were stopped by the templars. He was also able to identify the armor from banks as belonging to the Vandaleur's, a wealthy, powerful family well known in arcane circles.
The team went back to base to find Energy Wave (E.W.) was there. Phuk No had contacted him to help out with his equipment problems. While unable to help Phuk No, E.W. was able to do some research on the Vandaleurs. He received information about their corporate holdings and got the address of their corporate office and residence. Investigation into the family showed the current head of the Family, Anton Vandaleur and his children, Edward and Anais, have often argued in public. He also found that the family has never filed a police report, never been arrested for any charge nor have they ever lost a court case.
E.W. agrees to help the team and they all go to check out the Vandaleur residence. Once they are at the massive compound, E.W. discovers that the property is not connected to the city's power grid at all, although the property is well lit.
The team plans their next move... |
